Turkey Disaster Relief 2023
On February 6th and February 20th, Southeast Turkey was devastated by earthquakes of magnitudes 7.8 and 6.3, respectively. The aftermath of these natural disasters left over 2 million people homeless and more than 47,000 homes and buildings in ruins or severely damaged. The official death toll currently stands above 45,000, and that number is expected to increase in the coming weeks. This growing number exemplifies the dire need for immediate and ongoing humanitarian aid in the region.
The Order of the Silver Star, a veteran-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is committed to supporting the earthquake victims. We have established partnerships with churches in the affected areas to provide assistance. Our team of dedicated volunteers, who most recently served the Ukrainian refugees in Poland during 2022, will be deployed to Southeast Turkey on March 18th. We will be collaborating with Diyarbakir Kilisesi and Antakya Kilisesi (local religious establishments of Diyarbakir and Antakya) in constructing shelters and distributing food to displaced families. Our volunteers will serve for a week, and we will do our best to provide aid in any way possible.
The Order of the Silver Star’s mission in Turkey will include the following:

Construction of shelters for those who have lost their homes.

Distribution of food and supplies to the people affected.

Assisting the local community with the cleanup efforts.
We are asking for funds for this aid mission. This funding will be used directly to cover the cost of the following items:

Airfare and travel costs for the volunteer team.

Travel visas for each volunteer.

Meals and lodging throughout the mission.
